The College Football regular season is now officially over and the top six teams have been shaken up drastically. Just this past weekend we saw Ohio State get blown out at home, LSU fall to Texas A&M, and teams in contention to move up like Oregon and Clemson fall to inferior opponents. So let’s talk about who should be in the top six going into championship week.

#1- Georgia Bulldogs 12-0 (Previously #1)

All year Georgia has been the clear top dog in all of college football and their defense has been able to make it so they were really only in threat of losing once. They have the second-ranked defense in all of college football and have shown no signs of weakness. Now the Bulldogs have LSU on the menu for the SEC Championship game and after last week it looks like Georgia should put this one away easily. Based on what they’ve done all season though, they should be the clear top team in the nation.

#2- Michigan Wolverines 12-0 (Previously #3)

Going into this week against Ohio State there were many questions surrounding Michigan since even though they have been tossing around every opponent they had, the only good team they beat was Penn State. They were also coming off a scare of a win against Illinois, only winning by two points. They put those accusations to rest this past week by getting absolutely dominating win over the previously second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, in Columbus. They have one of the best run games in all of college football and have had a great defense all year. If they can keep up this production against Purdue for the BIG Ten Championship then they are locks for this number two spot.

#3- TCU Horned Frogs 12-0 (Previously #4)

TCU has been holding their own all year, continuing to stay undefeated when everyone doubted them going into each week. They did have a scare against Baylor, needing a game-winning field goal to win by one, but quickly put those doubts to rest last week by absolutely steamrolling Iowa State 62-14. TCU has had one of the nation’s best offenses all year but their defense has been a little iffy in some games. However if they can hold up and continue what they’ve been doing against Kansas State, then they should be a lock for the Playoffs.

#4- USC Trojans 11-1 (Previously #6)

USC has been hot recently, lead by the clear Heisman favorite Caleb Williams, and they show no sign of stopping. Even though they had a close loss to Utah earlier in the year, they have been playing way better football than anyone below them. The biggest challenge for them now is that they have to face the team that beat them earlier in the year, Utah, in their Championship game. However, if they can prevail and play offense how they have been, they should be this fourth and final team in the playoffs.

#5- Alabama Crimson Tide 10-2 (Previously #7)

You might be asking why Alabama is ahead of Ohio State, when they have two losses and Ohio State only has one, but it’s really based on the quality of losses. Alabama has struggled a bit this year, but both of their losses came on the road to very good teams by a combined four points in both games. So while they have a worse record than Ohio State, they have been playing a bit better football than Ohio State has.

#6- Ohio State Buckeyes 11-1 (Previously #2)

While Ohio State has won almost every one of their games, they have not won many of them with ease. In recent weeks they have kind of struggled with teams they should’ve run by easily, then this loss against Michigan just secured the doubts around them. When you lose by 22 points at home against one of the only real opponents you’ve played it is hard to come back from that and show you’re a worthy playoff team. While there is still some room for them to make it, it is unlikely they do this year.
