Eagles star rookie defensive tackle, Jordan Davis, recently went down with a bad injury and there is no telling when he’ll come back. So the Eagles decided to go out and sign former All-Pro Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to fill in for Davis’ absence. This move could be an excellent thing for both parties, but how will it affect them? Let’s break down how Suh can help this Eagles team out, and how the eagles can help Suh’s legacy.
How Can Suh Help The Eagles?
Suh may be way outside his prime years at this point in his career, but he has still yet to miss a game, outside of his two-game suspension in 2011, in his entire career. He has also yet to not start a game in his entire career, so while he may not be his prime self anymore he is still a starting-level player for the rest of the season. He has been one of the league’s best run defenders across the defensive line, which is what the Eagles were missing in the absence of Jordan Davis.
Suh is also one of the league’s better block eaters which is what the Eagle’s pass rush could really use to be more effective consistently. Suh himself is also a decent threat in the pass rush game when needed, he has 70.5 career sacks with six in both of the last two seasons. His presence on the defensive line is among the best of all veteran defensive tackles, it’s incredibly lucky for the Eagles that he lasted this long in free agency for them to snag him up and fill their defensive needs. He fills in the role perfectly for Jordan Davis as a run defender and blocks eater, there was no better guy the Eagles could’ve picked up for this role.
Suh is also a great help for Philadelphia’s Superbowl run this season as a veteran presence and potential starter on their great defensive line. Suh has already been on two teams that have made it to the Superbowl and one team that has won the Superbowl. His presence and leadership of already being there and knowing what to do help a team way more than it may seem. Suh knows how to win and what it takes, he also has the skill to help lead them there.
How Can The Eagles Help Suh?
The biggest way Philadelphia help Suh is with his legacy in the NFL. The Eagles have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season and all the winning they due will automatically go on Suh’s Hall of Fame legacy. They also have some of the highest odds of any team in the league to make the Superbowl which would look great on Suh’s legacy as a player. Suh’s career had seemed like it was over after he went all of the offseason and half of the regular season unsigned, but the Eagles swooped in and gave him an opportunity instead of trading for someone at the deadline.
The Eagles going out and signing Suh gives him a chance to show what he can still do for a team, and that he can be a starter on a championship-caliber team. They are also the best situation for Suh to be in as he fits exactly what they need in a defensive lineman, so he can shine among the rest of his teammates and make the team better. Ultimately this is a great signing for both parties as Suh gives the Eagles a starter and a better shot at a championship, and the Eagles give Suh a chance to win another ring and prove he is still good despite his age.
